Sustainability

Sustainable Coffee

United Coffee is a European leader in sustainable coffee. We are dedicated to working with internationally recognised codes of conduct to support farmers, protect ecosystems and wildlife all over the world.

Since 1990 we have been a European leader in sustainable coffee, forging relationships with Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and Utz Certified. In addition we are a founding member of the 4C Association (Common Code for the Coffee Community) and we purchase our tea from producers who are members of the Ethical Tea Partnership.

All of our coffee production takes place in certified factories across Europe that operate in strict compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

Certified Sustainable Coffee & Tea

Our customers and staff are becoming more and more interested in sustainability and the impact the industry is having on the environment.  We work closely with them in order to meet their environmental standards and we actively encourage them to move towards increasing their use of sustainable coffee and tea products.

Other Sustainability Initiatives

  • Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP)
  • Our tea is purchased from producers who are a member of the Ethical Tea Partnership. This organisation ensures that a number of requirements regarding working and living conditions of tea producers worldwide are met and monitored on a regular basis.
  • Common Code for the Coffee Community (4C)
  • United Coffee is a founding member of the 4C’s (Common Code for the Coffee Community).  This is a network of buyers and suppliers promoting sustainable entrepreneurship.
  • Our goal together with the other players in the coffee industry, NGO’s and trade unions, is to develop one single code of conduct for the entire coffee sector.
  • Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI)
  • United Coffee is member of BSCI, the broadest business platform for the improvement of social compliance in the global supply chain. BSCI offers companies a comprehensive monitoring and qualification system covering all products sourced from any country.
  • The ultimate goal of the BSCI is to improve the working conditions in the global supply chain. BSCI advocates a development oriented approach through which we help suppliers to implement social requirements progressively. To find sustainable solutions to the problems, BSCI supports suppliers with training and capacity building activities.
  • Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH)
  • Through our Dutch operation, United Coffee is taking part in the Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH). IDH is accelerating and up-scaling sustainable trade by forming ambitious coalitions between companies, governments and civil society organisations.
